” He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.” Ps.147:4
I gaze in silent admiration at the starry canopy above me. Stars as far as eye can see in every direction, some bright and distinct while others faint, like glowing spects of dust in the night sky. I drink in the beauty and solitude of the moment and remember the conversation I had with my students one day this week.
” Look at all those stars! I’d never be able to count them!” Kierra declares as she returns the Count to a Million book to my desk . She has the book opened to a black page speckled with white dots representing a million stars. Grasping this opportunity to remind the class and myself just how big God is I say,” There are so many stars in the sky we could never begin to count them! And do you know what? God has a name for every single one of those stars!”
At this, the children’s eyes get big with amazement .
” He does?!” asks one incrediously.
” Yup! God knows each of those stars by name and He even knows each of our names too! Isn’t that amazing?! He even knows what job you’ll have when you grow up.It might not be the job you think it will be either .” I said , smiling.
“I’m going to be a wood worker!” Gavin declares,” Or maybe just a worker. I’ll build houses and stuff for people.”
“And I’m going to be an artist!” states Lexis.
” I might be a farmer or I might not ,” says Riley sensitive to what I just said about God possibly having a different plan in mind.
I don’t know how God plans to use these little people in the future but I am certain of one thing and that’s that He’s got a wonderful plan for each of these dear lives . I’m so privileged to be a part of their lives as their teacher for this part of their life and it’s been amazing how God is already using them to teach me different things of Himself.
I also don’t know if what was said in that moment will stay with the children but if nothing else, it was what I needed to be reminded of right then.
God is so big and He has names for each of the innumerable stars and yet, He still loves little me way down here on earth and knows my name and my personal life. He not only knows I exist down here but He cares about the little details of my life today and He has a beautiful plan for my future. I am humbled of this and feel so unworthy of His affection and interest in me .
He knows your name and what it is you are facing right now. He sees the stage of life you are in and smiles because it’s where He wants you right now.
You might find it hard to smile in return though because the place you find yourself in may be discouraging, hard, confusing, or painful and it feels as if God is distant and uncaring. Or maybe the waiting is getting long and you wonder if God hears and will answer your prayers. God is Faithful * He cares about you * He loves you and I know He won’t just leave you hanging -Trust Him- Love Him – Seek Him.
To the young person seeking God’s will for your life; He will guide you! And when He does, it might not be what you had imagined! But that will be okay because if that’s where God has led you , it’ where He want you for right now. ” In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths.” Prov.3:6 ” I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide you with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8
To the spiritually hungry and thirsty, searching for the satisfying life-giving waters of Truth you will find it in Jesus Christ! ” O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.” Psalm 34:8 ( 1 Peter 2:2-3)
The Creator of everything and Namer of stars loves and cares for you. Nothing is too big for Him and your burdens aren’t too heavy for him to carry. Lay them at His feet and instead of retrieving them again, accept the forgiveness, peace, and joy He offers . He’s got this~ so just relax!
On a different note, here is a little sneak peak of what we did one lovely fall afternoon. We took the afternoon off and picked apples at a nearby orchard.
We had a lot of fun and it didn’t take long to pick half a bushel of apples.
Then we went to my house and made caramel apples and dipped rice crispy triangles into melted chocolate to make candy corn treats. I was so grateful for the assistance of my class mom. It would have been much more of a challenge to try to manage everything on my own. 🙂
